America's new favorite breed is a dog-show contender this year

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 22:07:12 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — The United States' new favorite dog breed — the comical, controversial French bulldog — has never won the nation's pre-eminent dog show.Yet here, at an ambling trot, comes Winston. The Frenchie with NFL connections is a strong contender at this week's Westminster Kennel Club dog show, less than two months after the release of rankings showing that his kind has become the country’s most prevalent dog breed.Frenchies' rise has been stunning: from 83rd most popular to No. 1 in three decades. It also has been dogged by concerns about their health, debate over the ethics of breeding, denunciations of a gold-rush-like market with ever more “exotic” variations, and a recent spate of high-profile and sometimes fatal robberies. Tennis, or terriers? US Open’s home hosts famed dog show If all that says something about these stumpy-snouted, pointy-eared, deep-chested, quizzical little bulldogs, what does it say about the culture that loves them?THEIR MEDIA IMAGE IMPACTS THEI...

Jean Carroll, 79, testified that Trump raped her in 1996 inside a dressing room at the luxury Bergdorf Goodman store in Manhattan after they had a chance encounter and shopped together for lingerie.Trump, 76, has said he never raped Carroll and was never with her at the department store. He has been absent from the trial, though jurors saw portions of his videotaped deposition. He has accused Carroll of making up allegations to fuel sales of her 2019 memoir. The jury's decision in the trial — which involves a civil case and not a criminal one — may come down to who they believe more. Here's more on how the jury will reach its verdict:WHEN WILL DELIBERATIONS BEGIN?Closing arguments are tentatively scheduled for Monday with a...

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 22:07:12 GMT

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Lauren and it's about some family drama. Here's her email: Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I have a major dilemma. My daughter is graduating college later this month and the whole family is excited, but it’s also brought up a bit of family drama. See, she only gets three tickets for graduation and they are going to me, my ex-husband (her father), and her younger sister. We are having a graduation party after and everyone in the family is invited, and most people are fine with that. But the issue is her father’s now-wife, who he’s only been married to for a year, is insisting she should be the one to get the third ticket. She keeps calling me and hounding me, and even though I’ve confronted my ex about it, he won’t stop her. Finally, I blew up at her and told her graduation is only for family and she isn’t family, and now she’s angry, my ex is angry...

Ask Amy: I’m teen girl and I can’t stop judging others on how they dress

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 22:07:12 GMT

Dear Amy: I am a 16-year-old girl.School is OK (I’m a sophomore), but one thing I notice is the fact that I am really judgmental. I tend to have bad and judgmental thoughts about others. For example, if I see a girl wearing revealing clothing, I will call her a “slut” or a “whore” inside my head. Or if I see a boy wearing pajamas or slides or crocs at school, I’ll think of him as “lazy” and “sloppy.”I also have relatively high standards when it comes to having boyfriends. Most of my standards have to do with clothing and shoes.Even though I’ve never been in a relationship before, I will judge the person by the way they look and if they don’t match my standards, then I won’t give them a chance. There is this senior who was talking to me, but since he didn’t match my standards, I didn’t want to be seen with him around school.I’m one of those people who knows what they don’t want, rather than what they do want.I’m trying to figure out what is wrong with me, but I guess ...

When asked why it was in Russia’s interest to accuse Ukraine that they were trying to assassinate Putin he said: "It is in our interests. Russia has not won any victories. He (Putin), can no longer inspire his society and he cannot send his troops to ...
