New Wild wing Pat Maroon: Winning a Stanley Cup ‘starts now’

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 21:37:56 GMT

Pat Maroon was a long player with the Anaheim Ducks when he advanced to his first conference championship game. The Ducks lost to eventual-champion Chicago at Honda Center — and it still irks him.“I thought we should have won, to be honest with you,” he said. But, the veteran winger said Saturday, that experience helped him become a three-time Stanley Cup champion, once with St. Louis in 2019, then with Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021.“That (loss to Chicago) was kind of devastating, but when you go that far, you kind of know what it takes,” Maroon said. “And you can maybe bring that experience to different teams and players that have never been to the playoffs or past the first round, so you can really help them out.”Maroon has come to the right place. The Wild are a perennial playoff team that has been past the first round only three times, and past the second round only once, in 2003. Despite having strong teams the past three seasons — they were second in the Western Conference in 2021...

An opportunity awaits for young Avs goalie Justus Annunen: “I know I’m being watched every day”

Aside from captain Gabriel Landeskog’s season-long absence, the second-most important player on the Colorado Avalanche roster who might not be ready for the start of the season is backup goaltender Pavel Francouz. He has yet to skate with the team during training camp, and Friday his coach said there was no timeline for Francouz’s return. That makes 23-year-old Justus Annunen, with four games of NHL experience on his resume, the next man up.“It is how it works. Somebody gets hurt and some other guy gets a chance,” Annunen said. “It’s unfortunate for Frankie, but I have a chance right now and I have to do my best. I’m trying to make the most of it. Just trying to do my best every day and fight for my spot.”The salary-cap conscious Avs did not add a veteran third goalie during the offseason. Alexandar Georgiev is entrenched as the starter, and with Francouz absent, there are four other goalies in camp. Annunen is the only one that has appeared in an NHL game.A Kempele, Finland, native,...

(KRON) -- After almost 14 years in the Financial District, one Italian restaurant is closing in downtown San Francisco. Barbacco's last day will be on Friday, Sept. 29, the business announced on Instagram. The restaurant, located at 220 California St., cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a reason that led to the closure. Barbacco said they thought 2023 was the year business would return to pre-pandemic levels. However, that did not happen as foot traffic never seemed to completely return to pre-pandemic levels. Banana Republic closes downtown SF location  "We hoped 2023 would be the year the neighborhood returned to the way it was pre-pandemic, however that hasn't been the case," Barbacco said on Instagram.
