Rockies’ 100th loss comes in blowout vs. Dodgers, naturally

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 01:47:19 GMT

Thanks to veteran right-hander Chase Anderson and rookie left fielder Nolan Jones, the Rockies were able to stave off the inevitable. For a few hours, anyway. After defeating the Dodgers, 4-1, in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Coors Field, the Rockies were clobbered in Game 2, losing 11-2. And so, for the first time in their 31 seasons of existence, the Rockies lost 100 games.Fittingly, No. 100 came against the Dodgers, who have dominated the Rockies for most of those 31 years. This season, the Rockies are 2-9 against the National League West bullies, including going 0-6 at Dodger Stadium, their first winless season at Los Angeles in franchise history. The nightcap was ugly and it was over early. In the second inning, the Dodgers sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs on six hits against right-hander Ryan Feltner, who was making his second start since returning from the injured list where he recovered from a fractured skull and a concussion suffered on May 13...

Rockies’ road to 100: The omens, injuries and ugly defeats that led to Colorado’s worst season in franchise history

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 01:47:19 GMT

The 2023 Colorado Rockies are officially infamous. The Rockies lost 100 games for the first time in franchise history, a dubious feat sealed by a 11-2 defeat to the Dodgers in the nightcap of a doubleheader Tuesday at Coors Field. The milestone loss was the exclamation point on Colorado’s season-long blueprint for failure — one that featured a dearth of both pitching and experience.Colorado got hit with a rash of starting pitching injuries, and once that happened, the club lacked any semblance of rotational depth. The Rockies’ rotation was already subpar when the spring began. By midseason, it was a glorified Triple-A rotation. They got dominated within the National League West (13-37 and now 2-9 against L.A.) and were the worst road team in baseball (22-59). Colorado started slowly, with 20 losses in April for the first time, and the second half wasn’t any better, with a franchise-worst 20 losses in August.Behind that shoddy rotation, a bullpen filled with vet...

Government shutdown could impact Fleet Week

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 01:47:19 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Fleet Week is up in the air this year – literally. The looming threat of a government shutdown would shut down the annual event.“In 2013, exactly 10 years ago, there was a shutdown and the sailors and Marines could not participate, nor could the Blue Angels, we had to bow out,” said Navy spokesperson Brian O’Rourke. In 2013, congress failed to pass a budget, throwing federal funding into a tailspin and grounding Fleet Week in San Francisco. This year, despite the looming deadline, O’Rourke says they are hoping for the best.   Target announces it’s closing stores in San Francisco, Oakland due to theft Staying cautiously optimistic is a common thread right now. This was originally published as a newsletter from Ryan Grim. Sign up to get the next one in your inbox. In a rather striking split screen today, Joe Biden became the first president ever to walk a union picket line, grabbing a bullhorn and using the word “we” to rally striking autoworkers. His Federal Trade Commission teamed with 17 attorneys general to sue Amazon for unfair competition (which was fun to see Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post report). And the FCC, finally under the control of Democratic commissioners, announced it would be moving to restore net neutrality rules undone by Trump. Over on the Republican side, the House GOP continued barreling toward a government shutdown over…what exactly? “Madam Speaker, forgive me, but what the hell is going on here?” wondered Democratic Rep. Jim McGovern from the House floor this evening. And Trump will be skipping Wednesday’s Republican debate to speak at a non-union auto parts company that has nothing to do with the UAW...

CHICAGO (AP) — Christian Walker broke into the club Tuesday. Smashed through the front door with three sweet swings for the Arizona Diamondbacks.Walker homered twice and drove in six runs, and the Diamondbacks added to their wild-card push with a 15-4 victory over the lowly Chicago White Sox.Ketel Marte hit his 25th homer and Geraldo Perdomo also delivered at the plate, but Walker recorded the biggest blows while notching a career achievement. The first baseman pushed his numbers to 33 homers and 103 RBIs on the season, going 30-100 for the first time.“It makes me proud to think about,” Walker said. “It’s something that I’ve had my eye on for a long time.
