With a clutch completion, Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields finished a sloppy night with a signature win

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 07:18:40 GMT

On his final pass of a challenging night, Justin Fields knew he had one responsibility, one obligation to his team, one chance to author the ending of Monday’s tense and sloppy game with the Minnesota Vikings.Make a damn play.Just make one more play. Of any kind. That was all Fields needed to do, even with all the pressure that was intensifying — from the Vikings defense, from his own miscues earlier in the fourth quarter, from the weight of so many previous games the Chicago Bears had a chance to win but couldn’t.Just make a play. After doing so many things wrong, after again stumbling to the edge of the cliff in a winnable game, the Bears had their final chance to steal a win at U.S. Bank Stadium. The ball was in Fields’ hands near midfield with his team down a point and the clock ticking inside a minute. On third-and-10, Fields kept his nerves calm and his eyes up. A seven-man protection stonewalled a four-man Minnesota rush. And with the Vikings bailing backward in zone coverage, F...

A hotel under construction in downtown Denver and whose exterior is inspired by Colorado’s quaking aspen trees will feature interior designs and furnishings that pay homage to the outdoors and the West. The 13-story Populus hotel by Urban Villages is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. The Denver-based developer said it intends to build the country’s first “carbon-positive” hotel, which can mean going beyond cutting greenhouse-gas emissions to producing such environmental benefits as generating a surplus of renewable energy.Heather Wildman, principal and design director of Wildman Chalmers Design in Pittsburgh, said the architectural and interior design firm has worked with Urban Villages before.“The good thing about that is we have trust there, which is huge. But we also understood their mission statement and their values, which is highly related to (environmental) sustainability and reverence to nature,” Wildman said.A challenge of the proje...

Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto’s patience paid off in fourth quarter vs. Browns. Is he on verge of another hot streak?

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 07:18:40 GMT

The fourth-quarter blast of big plays probably felt like a long time coming for Nik Bonitto. With the Broncos leading by two scores and Cleveland down to No. 3 quarterback P.J. Walker, Bonitto and the Denver front seven revved up the pass-rush engine. He ripped around the left side for a sack on a second-and-11 early in the fourth. On the next play, he nearly forced Walker to fumble but got enough of the ball to ensure a third-and-15 pass fluttered harmlessly to the ground. Then Bonitto capped off the 29-12 win by meeting defensive lineman Zach Allen and dragging Walker down in the end zone for a safety.Bonitto had worked the entire day to chase Cleveland out of their preferred offensive style — being able to lean on a big offensive line and powerful run game — and finally in the end reaped the reward. It’s similar, in a way, to the patience required of Bonitto in recent weeks. He got off to a fast start this season, racking up 5.5 sacks over the Broncos’ first five games. Then the...
